It's important to understand that speeding up a GIF does not reduce its file size:
  • Same frames: Speeding up preserves all original frames, only changes their delays.
  • Same compression: Each frame's image data is not modified, only timing metadata.
  • To reduce size: Combine speed increase + trimming. Trim excess frames and speed up the remaining ones.

The GIF format specifies delays in hundredths of a second (1cs = 10ms). The most restrictive GIF viewer (some older browser versions) ignores delays < 2cs (20ms).
  • Typical original delay: 5-10cs (50-100ms).
  • 5× speed increase: delay 10cs → 2cs (minimum respected).
